MySight York’s Festive Celebrations

Posted: Monday 24 November 2025 | Louise Calpin

This year, our members, volunteers and staff are busy spreading cheer across the city, from hosting festive stalls to handcrafting beautiful decorations. Below is a list of ways we are celebrating community spirit this festive season.

MySight York’s tree at York Minster

We’re delighted to have been invited to decorate a tree again this year, at York Minster’s Christmas Tree Festival. There are 70 trees on display. The theme of our tree this year is “Bigger, Brighter, Bolder” – which celebrates how simple adaptations can make a significant difference to people with sight loss. Decorations have been made by the extremely talented members and volunteers of our Knit and Natter group.

The festival runs during sightseeing times until Monday 5th January. Admission is free for York residents with proof of address. For further information or to book in advance, visit the York Minster website.

Our Knit and Natter group have also made items for decorating the Court Room at Treasurer’s House this year, honouring novelist Sarah Scott. 15th November – 21st December, Saturday to Wednesday, 11am – 4pm (last entry 3.30pm). Wednesdays 2pm – 4pm is quiet sessions, for those who benefit from a lighter and quieter experience, but still want to explore the decorated house. The quiet session is the same, but with the lights on, the shutters open and the music turned off. You can book tickets to visit Treasurer’s House via the National Trust website.
